各臓器の癌取扱い規約は我が国における癌の分類・記載法の標準として広く使われているが、これを日本発の情報として海外に発信するために英語版の刊行が求められた。その求めに応じるべく、原発性肝癌では1997年に最初の英語版が発行され、その後、日本語版第4版の発行に伴い、2003年に第2版が発行された。7年ぶりの改訂となる本第3版は『原発性肝癌取扱い規約 第5版補訂版』の全内容を英訳したものである。
